High Performance MySQL, Second Edition

I’m pleased to say that the Second Edition of High Performance MySQL is now available for purchase from Amazon.com.
Baron, Peter, Vadim and Arjen did an excellent job updating the first edition, bringing it current to support 5.0 and 5.1 flavors of MySQL, expanding the content of the previous edition by more than doubling its size (from a first edition page-count of 275, to a second edition page-count of 708). There’s a lot of good stuff in there, and if MySQL administration is your daily grind, picking up a copy would be well-advised.

  1. High Performance MySQL is a most practical book about MySQL I ever read, thank your for your work!
When I read the chapter about storage Engine,a concept I don’t get, which is “Primary Key With Data” . you say MyISAM and Heap does not support “Primary Key With Data” ,but InnoDB,BDB dose. But what is “primary key with data” mean? I also try to find out it from official manual but failed.

  2. Christian,
Is that from the 1st Edition or the 2nd? In talking with Baron and Peter (the lead authors on the second edition), they tell me that the topic has a more complete explanation of storage engines than we could have managed in our edition.
You can pick it up by clicking the book cover in the sidebar. 🙂

  3. mine is 1st Edition.Does 2nd have great difference from 1st or just a complement for 1st?

  4. As I said in my original blog post, it is a HUGE difference. It’s about 425 pages longer, with a lot more content than our original edition.
